About

Find out who hosts any website

HostingChecker.online shows the hosting provider, server location, DNS records, SSL certificate and domain registration behind any domain or IP address. Lookups in the browser are free, and a REST API covers automated use.

How it works

Where the data comes from

Every lookup runs live against public sources. Results are cached for up to an hour.

DNS records
Queried live from the Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and Google (8.8.8.8) resolvers, following every CNAME to the end of the chain.
SSL certificate
Read from a TLS handshake with the server, the same way a browser gets it.
IP address and network
Location and network owner from IPinfo, network type from PeeringDB, and the announced route from RIPEstat.
Domain registration
RDAP from the registry and the registrar, with WHOIS as the fallback for domain endings that have no RDAP server.
Server response
One HEAD request to the server, whose response headers often name the CDN or platform.

The hosting provider comes from matching all of this against a list of known networks, CDNs, platforms, DNS hosts and email providers. Each result lists the evidence behind it, such as the network that owns the IP address or a CNAME that points to a platform.

A CDN or proxy such as Cloudflare can hide the server behind it. In that case the result names the CDN and says the origin is hidden, instead of guessing.
