Free MX lookup

Find the mail servers of any domain

Enter a domain to see its MX records in priority order and the email provider that runs each mail server. We query Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 resolver, with Google's 8.8.8.8 as a fallback.

Try: github.com · shopify.com · proton.me

How it works

How email finds a domain's mail servers

To deliver a message, the sending server reads the domain after the @ and asks DNS for its MX records. It sorts them by priority, connects to the first host on port 25 and hands the message over. If that host does not answer, it tries the next one and keeps retrying for several days before it gives up.

MX records only decide where mail arrives. Which servers may send mail for the domain is up to its SPF record, and DKIM and DMARC prove that a message really came from the domain. Check all three with the SPF, DMARC and DKIM checkers once the mail servers look right.
