About
What is Heroku?
Heroku is a platform as a service owned by Salesforce. Apps run in containers called dynos on AWS, so the network of a Heroku app is Amazon's.
Custom domains point a CNAME to a herokudns.com name, which identifies Heroku even though the addresses belong to AWS.
Detection
How to tell a site uses Heroku
A hosting check compares a site's DNS records, IP address and response headers with these signals. When several providers match, the one with the most matches wins.
CNAME and reverse DNS
A CNAME record or a reverse DNS name under one of these hosts points at Heroku.
- *.herokudns.com
- *.herokuapp.com
- *.herokussl.com
Response headers
Heroku adds these headers to the responses it serves.
- via: *vegur*
- server: heroku*
